Jennifer Granberg, 28, of Visalia was sentenced Thursday to 15 years to life in prison for second-degree murder in the death of her infant son.
She pleaded no contest last month.
Her companion, Christopher Harris, 28, of Visalia, pleaded no contest to the lesser charge of voluntary manslaughter and faces 11 years in prison but has yet to be sentenced, the Tulare County District Attorney’s Office said.
In April 2012, Granberg’s 2-month-old son was scalded by hot water in a bathtub. The couple delayed calling for medical assistance and the child died.
Granberg and Harris, who is not the child’s biological father, gave inconsistent accounts to Visalia police and were arrested. They had recently moved from the Seattle area.
Failure by a parent to get medical aid for a child resulting in death can lead to second-degree murder charges, the DA’s Office said.
