A 17-year-old girl is dead from a drug overdose and the man who gave her illegal narcotics is under arrest for murder, Visalia police said Wednesday.
About 9:15 p.m. Tuesday, police got a 911 call that a young woman was passed out and having a hard time breathing.
Office went to a home in the 4300 block of West Damsen Avenue and started CPR on the girl, who had labored breathing. An ambulance took her to Kaweah Delta Medical Center where she was later pronounced dead.
Several people were at the home and police arrested Jose Marquez Tovar, 25, who lived at the home, saying he provided her with illegal narcotics. Tovar and the girl were friends but not romantically involved, Sgt. Damon Maurice said.
The girl is a resident of northern Tulare County. Her name is not being released pending notification of her family, police said.
The cause of death and type of drug will be determined by the Tulare County Coroner’s Office, police said.
Tovar was booked into the Tulare County Pre-Trial Facility. Anyone with information is asked to call police at (559) 734-8117 or Crime Stoppers at (559) 498-STOP.
