Police arrested a juvenile boy Thursday morning who was suspected of accidentally shooting a 60-year-old man a half-mile away during target practice west of Porterville.
The Tulare County Sheriff’s Office said the incident happened about 10:45 a.m. near Avenue 208 and Road 148 in Poplar. The juvenile was shooting a .22 caliber rifle at a target. Several shots were fired past the target — and one of them struck a man about a half-mile away.
The man was treated for injures that were not life-threatening, the sheriff’s office said, and the boy was taken into custody for negligent discharge of a firearm.
