Fresno police have interviewed at least one person in Sacramento who was in possession of a firearm taken in a December gun store robbery in which George Sheklian, 85, was killed.
Lt. Mark Salazar of the Street Violence Section did not say which of the firearms was recovered when detectives conducted interviews. Police are still pursuing at least two men responsible for Sheklian’s death on Dec. 4.
Thirteen guns were taken when two masked bandits barged into the store near Blackstone and Sierra avenues. On the way out, one of the bandits knocked down Sheklian, who was bringing coffee to gun store owner Marilyn Panek. Sheklian sustained head injuries and died five days later.
Recovering the firearm will not necessarily result in arrests for the murder, but police are hopeful that it is a breakthrough in the case.
A reward of up to $25,000 is being offered for arrests in the case. Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at (559) 498-STOP.
