A woman pleaded guilty to embezzlement charges on Tuesday after admitting to stealing at least $317,000 from a Fresno law firm, U.S. Attorney Benjamin Wagner said.
Shelley Corkins, 38, of Fresno, embezzled the money while working at the firm as a bookkeeper and accounting department supervisor from January 2008 to May 2012, Wagner said. Corkins used her company credit card for personal purchases at various retailers, electronically transferred funds from law firm’s bank accounts into her own and took petty cash from her employer.
The Federal Bureau of Investigation investigated the case. Corkins faces a maximum penalty of 20 years in prison and a $250,000 fine at her sentencing on May 11.
