A 31-year-old man has been slain by gunfire, but Avenal police said Friday they do not suspect the murder is gang-related.
It’s the first homicide in Avenal in more than two years.
About 7 p.m. Thursday, police went to the area of Fifth Avenue and Stanislaus Street to check a report of gunshots and that a man had been shot.
Police found Santos Cabrera with at least one gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Cabrera was shot by a lone male as he was walking toward his vehicle, police said. The person who opened fire ran south on Fifth Street.
