One person was booked on suspicion of driving under the influence after a fatal traffic crash early Thursday south of Porterville.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the crash happened about 1 a.m. on Richgrove Drive, south of Avenue 56 and near the Tulare County town of Ducor, when the driver made an unsafe turn and his 2000 Ford veered off the roadway and hit a bridge abutment.
The CHP reported that a male passenger from Richgrove, who was not wearing a seat belt, was pronounced dead at the scene, and a second male passenger from Richgrove was taken to Community Regional Medical Center in Fresno for treatment.

A 25-year-old Richgrove man was arrested on a charge of felony driving while under the influence causing injury or death and vehicular manslaughter, and was booked into Tulare County Jail.
