Possible Fresno armed robbery foiled

Fresno police officers arrested a man with a loaded handgun Wednesday in southeast Fresno -- and may have prevented an armed robbery.

Sgt. Steve Crawford said officers Nathan Carr and Miguel Alverez were on patrol near Maple and Jensen avenues when they saw two men get out of a car and walk toward a convenience store. The men appeared to be putting bandannas over their faces, Crawford said.

When the officers approached the two, the suspects turned and ran back to their car.

Inside the car, officers found a loaded .38 caliber handgun.

One of the men, 32, was arrested for possession of the handgun without proper registration and booked into the Fresno County Jail.
