Man shot after scuffle on Fresno basketball court

A 19-year-old man was shot in Fresno following a scuffle on a basketball court Friday afternoon, police said.

The man, whose name was not available Saturday, was treated at an area hospital and released, said Fresno police Lt. Mark Salazar.

He was playing basketball at Bulgarian and Lee avenues when a fight broke out. One of the participants in the fight shot the man, who had gunshot wounds on both legs, said police.

It's not clear why the shots were fired, but the victim said he was not the intended target, Salazar said. Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call Fresno police.

Man sought in robbery

A man with a device resembling a bomb took an undisclosed amount of money Friday from the Washington Mutual branch in Reedley.

Police said the man entered the bank about 5 p.m. and demanded money, placing a white plastic bag on the counter in front of a teller. Inside the bag were what appeared to be homemade dynamite sticks. More were strapped to the man’s torso.

The suspect was last seen running west on 11th Street wearing a fake beard and large sunglasses, and concealing his face with a hat. He was described as a possible transient. Anyone with information about the robbery is asked to contact detective Mark Diedrich at (559) 637-4250.
