Fresno man, 19, arrested in string of weekend thefts

A Fresno man was booked into Fresno County Jail after a string of robberies that began Saturday, the Fresno Police Department said.

The arrest took place after police detectives worked with Fresno County sheriff's detectives to identify Uriah Redmond, 19, as the suspect.

Fresno police Sgt. Mark Hudson said the first robbery occurred Saturday when the bandit surprised a woman who was getting out of her car at her home just after midnight. He grabbed the woman's purse containing $850 and ran, causing the woman to fall on the pavement.

Monday, a second woman was attacked just after she had arrived at a restaurant with her 3-year-old son. The bandit again grabbed the woman's purse and fled, making off with about $40 and jewelry.

The same day, just before midnight, the bandit snatched a woman's purse in the county as she was getting out of her car near Clovis and Kings Canyon avenues.

He got away with her wallet, checks and credit cards.

Hudson said each victim described the bandit in the same way.

Sheriff's spokesman Chris Curtice said Redmond was arrested on the 5500 block of East Terrace Avenue.

Anyone with information about the robberies is asked to contact sheriff's detective Ryan Gilbert at (559) 292-1141 or Crime Stoppers at (559) 498-STOP.
