Four Kings County Sheriff's Deputies became ill and had to go to the hospital after being exposed to a foreign controlled substance.
Deputies conducted a stop on a vehicle for a traffic violation on the 13000 Block of Douglas Avenue near Laton at 10 p.m. Saturday, said the Kings County Sheriff Department.
Shortly after conducting the search, all four of the deputies on the scene became ill from an unknown controlled substance and were taken to Adventist Medical Center in Hanford for treatment. All were released a few hours later once they were deemed symptom free.
The Visalia Hazmat Team was called to assist with the collection of evidence and decontamination of affected property.
Authorities determined that the driver, Gene Brady, 43, had a warrant for his arrest. Alongside Brady was passenger Mary Vanhoek, 32.
Brady was arrested for his outstanding warrant; Vanhoek was released.
