A man who tossed methamphetamine from a speeding car as he was being pursued by Lemoore police Wednesday remains at large.
The incident began about 3:30 p.m. near West Bush Street and Highway 41, where officers were sent to investigate a dispute inside a car between a man and a woman.
A spokesman said officers spotted a white car that matched the vehicle’s description pulling out of a gas station and tried to stop it in the 1600 block of D Street. The driver, who was arguing with a woman walking nearby, sped away from officers, who broke off the chase because of heavy traffic.
The suspect ran from the car in the 500 block of West Bush, where Lemoore Elementary School was put on lockdown. A search by officers and a helicopter was unsuccessful. Police said about 20 grams of the drug were thrown from the car, which turned out to be stolen in Lemoore.
