A North Hollywood man was arrested on felony charges in connection with a collision early Monday on North Friant Road, the California Highway Patrol reported.
The crash occurred about 3:08 a.m. as the man, identified as Albert Machado, 26, of North Hollywood was northbound in the southbound lanes north of East Copper Avenue, the CHP reported. At the same time, a second vehicle driven by Kenneth Verhaar, 18, of Fresno was southbound on Friant. Verhaar saw Machado’s Infinity heading for him and tried to swerve, but the cars collided south of Lost Lake Road. The crash was witnessed by a Fresno County sheriff’s deputy, who rendered aid to the victims.
Machodo was booked on suspicion of being under the influence and other charges. He was uninjured. Verhaar sustained head and neck trauma. His passengers, all of Fresno, also sustained major injuries. They were identified as Jescenia Ganez, 18; and Cassandra Sifuentes, 18. A 17-year-old was not identified.
