Extending a family tradition in the pole vault, the Clovis High junior won the Central Section title at 15-8. Seeded second in the state meet, he's tied for 11th in section history. Older sister Andrea Greenman is tied for 12th in the girls at 11-6. She just completed a career at Fresno State, where she went 12-6. And their father, Greg, has coached the event at Clovis for 32 years.
Question: Dad says you were a former 800-meter runner, but he couldn't run you out of the pole vault pit. What gives?
Answer: I love it, it's my passion. And my sister kind of got me inspired. I saw what she was doing and I wanted to be like her.
What's it like competing for pops?
He's coached me since I was a little kid; I started in third grade. It's hard sometimes, but he's made me better.
While you're second-seeded this weekend, eight vaulters in the field have gone higher than 15-8, including Lemoore's Kyle Fraley (16-4). What's your chance of making the podium (top six)?
My goal is to make it to the second day, have fun and just compete.
