Baseball playoff highlights May 18

Blake Quinn pitched a two-hitter and struck out 11 as eighth-seeded Bullard edged No. 9 Bakersfield 1-0 in the opening round of the Central Section playoffs. Trent Sieb scored in the first inning for the Knights, who earned a shot at No. 1 Buchanan in Friday's quarters. Bullard won 10-9 on the exact stage in 2009.

Isiah Yates homered and drove in three runs and Luis Galindo added two RBIs as No. 7 Clovis East defeated No. 10 North 8-1 in D-I.

Deondre Howard gave up one hit and struck out four in the final three innings for the save in D-II No. 9 Edison's 8-7 win over No. 8 West. Howard also was 2 for 4 with two steals.

Erick McRae hit a three-run homer over the right-center field fence with no outs in the bottom of the seventh as No. 6 Hanford -- elevated after winning two D-III titles -- edged No. 11 Western 4-2 in D-II.

A year after winning the D-IV title, No. 13 Washington was welcomed to D-III with a 20-3 pounding at the hands of No. 4 Hanford West. Eian Raeber threw a complete game and Luke Tessman went 3 for 3 with three RBIs.

Garrett Brown got the win, Alex DeLeon the save and No. 8 Sanger beat No. 9 Independence 2-0 in D-III.

Roman Rosales got the save with 22/3 innings of scoreless relief as No. 7 Kingsburg defeated No. 10 Hoover 5-2 in D-III.

Brett Horne and Victor Britta combined for four runs and five steals as No. 7 Selma beat No. 10 Chowchilla 5-1 in D-IV.

Justin Wilson hit a grand slam during a six-run first as D-V No. 6 Fresno Christian downed No. 11 Woodlake 12-2. The Eagles received back-to-back homers from Trevor York and Ryan Neufeld in the fourth.

Joel Placencia had four RBIs as No. 1 Mendota crushed No. 4 Laton 17-1 in a D-VI semifinal.
