Clovis East High coach Janine Sodersten figured a rebuilding year was ahead for her badminton team.
The Timberwolves had lost 10 seniors and the team practiced just one week before the first game because the girls basketball team needed the gym for the playoffs.
Boy, was Sodersten wrong.
Clovis East blew out defending champion Buchanan 10-1 on Friday for its second Central Section title in three years to cap a 15-0 season.

"This year we had a lot of depth," Sodersten said, "and we only had one close match, so they knew in the back of their minds that nobody had really pushed them."
Clovis East, which has played in all three section finals, avenged last year's 6-5 loss to the Bears (12-3) and in 2009 pounded Clovis West 10-1.
Timberwolves No. 1 singles player Mai Kor Xiong handled Buchanan's Nikki Lee 11-2, 11-2 and teamed with Lucy Le for a 15-11 victory against Michaela Carpentier and Jacklyn Arkelian at No. 1 doubles.
