Sports briefs: Clovis man top powerlifter in state

Darrell Copeland of Clovis took the top honor in the U.S. Powerlifting Association state championships Saturday at Centerpoint gym in Fresno.

Copeland, 49, was named the meet's top open lifter, totaling 1,593 pounds in the squat, benchpress and deadlift in the 242-pound class.

Local cyclists shine at road race

Several local cyclists turned in strong performances Saturday at the Classic Copperopolis Road Race.

Vince Owens (Sierra Pacific Racing) finished sixth in the Pro/1/2 field, while teammate Brian Bosch was second in the Masters 35+ 1/2/3 race. Jack Maddux (Specializes Racing) won the junior boys' division, while Kieran Devere (Pinnacle) was third among junior girls.

Reedley golfers win

Jack Mulroy led the field with a 72 to help Reedley College win Monday's Central Valley Conference mini-tournament with a 381 total at Kings River Country Club.

Results in for youth judo

Results of the Visalia YMCA Spring Promotional Tournament on April 17: First place, John Oganyan, Razmik Avetisyan, Jayzme Torculas,Vahan Ghevondian and Nayomi Torculas; Second place, Hamlet Martirosyan, Josiah Torculas and Alonah Torculas; and third place, Raffi Shahbazian and Minas Avetisyan.
