Sports briefs: Dos Palos grad earns All-America honor

Gonzaga reliever Cody Martin, out of Dos Palos High, was named to Baseball America's Midseason All-America team.

The senior was 2-0 with a 0.89 ERA and five saves at the time of selection. He also had 40 strikeouts in 30 innings and was holding batters to a .170 average.

Martin was one of six pitchers, and the only reliever, selected on the 16-player team.

Ex-Clovis East star wins SEC honor

Former Clovis East High softball standout Melissa Davin of Tennessee was named the Southeastern Conference's freshman of the week.

Davin, a first baseman/designated player, hit .500 (7 of 14) for the week with four runs, two doubles, her first career triple, a home run and six RBIs as the Volunteers swept a doubleheader against second-ranked Georgia and took three games against Ole Miss.

Reedley splits doubleheader

Gilbert Ruelas gave up three hits and no earned runs in eight innings, carrying Reedley College to a 3-1 win over Victor Valley in the first game of a nonleague doubleheader. The Tigers lost the second game 7-4. Connor Williams homered and Ryan Sauceda drove in two runs for Reedley in the opener. Mitchell Scott went 2 for 2 with a double and an RBI for the Tigers in the loss.

Tigers golfers win

Reedley College finished with the top four scorers -- led by Jack Mulroy's 1-under 71 -- to win the ninth Central Valley Conference men's mini-tournament at Kings River Country Club.
