The rankings shaker of last week took place Friday at Clovis West, where Sydney White pitched a three-hitter with seven strikeouts and delivered a go-ahead two-run double in the sixth inning to lift the then-No. 4 Golden Eagles over previous No. 2 Buchanan in a Tri-River Athletic Conference game. Thanks to a head-to-head win over Clovis West earlier this season, Hanford West moves up to second, with the Golden Eagles third and Buchanan fourth. The Golden Eagles-Bears rematch is set for May 3 at Buchanan.
Hanford West's position behind consensus No. 1 Stockdale will be put to the test Friday with a 4:30 p.m. West Yosemite League showdown at No. 6 El Diamante against sophomore pitcher Sierra Hyland, who has 91 strikeouts in 73 1/3 innings this season. The Huskies are hitting .303 as a team, led by Morgan Sweet (.519, 1 HR, 9 RBIs).
Woodlake, which had been No. 3 in Division V in previous editions of these rankings, actually is in D-IV. A clerical error on the Central Section website had listed Woodlake under both divisions, but commissioner Jim Crichlow confirmed the Tigers will be in the D-IV playoff bracket. Woodlake has won seven straight games and sits atop the East Sequoia League with a crucial game today against D-V No. 2 Lindsay.
