Baseball and softball highlights March 12

BASEBALL

Seth Moranda threw five scoreless innings and Kody Batesole supplied two hits and two RBIs as Buchanan defeated El Diamante 6-0 to win the Coca-Cola Classic championship. Moranda was named MVP after striking out 15 in 14 scoreless innings. Jason Gonzalez was named best hitter, batting .526 with seven runs and 12 RBIs.

Jordan Caglia homered and finished with three hits as Clovis East blew out Merced 12-0 at the Coca-Cola Classic.

Michael Fain struck out nine in five scoreless innings and Clovis beat Beyer-Modesto 6-2 at the Coca-Cola Classic.

Roosevelt pitcher Brian Garcia struck out 15 and also drove in two runs to pick up a 4-2 win against Tranquillity.

Anders Nelson batted 2 for 4 with two RBIs as Central (8-0) stayed undefeated and picked up a 6-2 victory against Fresno (6-2) in the Central Classic championship.

Tyler Walker struck out six in a complete game and had three hits and two RBIs as Kerman downed Memorial 13-4 at the Central Classic.

Tyler Arnsburg hit a walk-off double as Golden Valley-Merced scored three in the ninth and edged Hoover 7-6 at the Central Classic. Hoover's John Hilty had three RBIs.

SOFTBALL

Kingsburg's Savannah Seiger threw her first career perfect game and struck out 12 during a 3-0 win over Chowchilla for the small schools division title at the Buchanan Tournament.

Carrie Wiegand went 2 for 3 as Liberty-Madera Ranchos defeated Hoover 4-1 in the Buchanan Tournament.
