Basketball playoff highlights from Feb. 25

BOYS BASKETBALL

Using pressure defense, No. 2 Tulare allowed just one point during the second quarter to pull away for a 66-39 win against No. 7 Sunnyside in the Division II quarterfinals. Tulare's William Stallworth scored 25 points and David Love added 18.

Charlie Thompson scored 23 points and Denzel Johnson added 21 as top-seeded Clovis West eliminated No. 9 Centennial 87-42 in the second round in D-I. The Golden Eagles made 22 of 23 free throws.

Brandon Hamilton had 24 points and Branson Alves grabbed 13 rebounds as Laton defeated Riverdale Christian 58-52 in D-V.

Kevin Bailey scored a game-high 29 to lead No. 4 Clovis East to a 67-65 win over No. 5 Liberty-Bakersfield in D-I play. The Timberwolves led by double digits most of the game, but Liberty rallied in the fourth as Clovis East missed free throws. Tyler Morgan's rebound and putback with 45 seconds left helped seal it.

Jajuan Hammond's 18 points secured Bullard's 67-53 D-I win over Central, ending the Grizzlies' rollercaster year.
