Girls soccer playoffs set for action

The Central Section girls soccer playoffs kick off today, February 15, with 14 matches on the schedule.

Two 2010 champions will be playing, both in Division II: defending D-II titlist Garces and Clovis North, the D-III winner last year that's been promoted.

Madera High stadium will host two games today, also in D-II. At 4 p.m., No. 7 Madera South hosts No. 10 Memorial followed by No. 12 Lemoore and No. 5 Madera at 7.

For first-year Madera South coach Pat Evans, today marks a reunion with his former team, Memorial, where he won six section titles in 19 years.

Said Evans: "Pretty compelling matchup – for a myriad of reasons."

The boys playoffs start Wednesday. In a scheduling update, No. 7 Madera will host No. 10 Clovis West at 4:30 p.m. in D-I at Madera High stadium followed by No. 12 Roosevelt at No. 5 Madera South at 7 in D-III.
