Yet another Central Section girls basketball league winning streak of historical proportions was snapped Friday night when Sierra got a go-ahead basket by Kaley Osborn with 15 seconds remaining and defeated Yosemite 33-30 in the North Sequoia League.
The Badgers had won 73 consecutive league games since also losing to Sierra in the 2003-04 season. And their loss Friday came three days after Clovis beat Clovis West 57-48, halting the Golden Eagles' Tri-River Athletic Conference winning streak at 58. Still alive is Hanford's 56-game winning streak in the West Yosemite League.
Paige Brown led Sierra with nine points, including the team's final point on a free throw with five seconds to go. The Chieftains held Yosemite's Sydnee Fipps to eight points. The 2010 Bee All-Star was averaging 23.7 coming in.
