Basketball highlights from Jan. 28

BOYS BASKETBALL

John Brinson made a free throw with 14 seconds left and Kevin Bailey blocked a shot just before the buzzer as Clovis East, ranked No. 7 in the Central Section by The Bee, upset No. 2 Buchanan 67-65 in the Tri-River Athletic Conference.

Lance Van Grouw had 31 points, reaching 1,000 for his career, and Grant Verhoeven added 15 points, 19 rebounds and five blocks as Central Valley Christian beat Coalinga 73-38 in the Central Sequoia League.

David Love's 20 points powered East Yosemite League-leading Tulare – ranked third in the Central Section and second in Division II by The Bee – to a 60-32 win over Granite Hills.

Jalen Watson had 11 points and 12 rebounds, and Mt. Whitney made 12 free throws in the fourth quarter to beat Golden West 54-44 in the West Yosemite League.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Jasmine Cooper scored 17 points and Clovis East made nine 3-pointers in a 79-58 TRAC upset of No. 3 Buchanan.

Brianna Watson's 27 points powered No. 6 Clovis by No. 10 Clovis North 63-43 in the TRAC.
