Basketball highlights from Jan. 18


Memorial High's Robin Draper scored 13 points and Mahogany May added 10 in the Panthers' 57-47 road victory in a County/Metro Athletic Conference contest against Madera on Tuesday. Rhiana Rosel scored 18 for the Coyotes.

Kacie Van Hofwegen scored 18 points and Ashley Vander Tuig had 13 rebounds as Central Valley Christian beat Kingsburg 60-38 to move to 4-0 in the CSL.

Morgan Darling delivered eight of her 18 points and three steals in the fourth quarter as Bullard, in its first season under former Edison boys and girls coach Bill Engel, outscored Sanger 13-3 to win 46-38 on the road in a County/Metro Athletic Conference opener. Amanda Alba scored 14 points for the Apaches.

In a matchup of 2010 Bee honorable mention All-Stars, Brianna Watson scored 27 points as Clovis rallied to a 74-70 Tri-River Athletic Conference-opening win over Clovis East and Erikka Banks' 30. Maddy Diamante added 18 points for Clovis.

Jazmine Simpson scored 20 points as Central Section defending Division I champion Clovis West rolled 61-54 at Clovis North while gathering steam for a TRAC showdown Friday at Buchanan. Chay Coffman led the Broncos with 23 points.


Grant Verhoeven had 32 points, 24 rebounds and five blocks and Lance Van Grouw seven points, seven steals and seven rebounds as Central Valley Christian improved to 15-2 overall and 4-0 in the Central Sequoia League with a 72-36 win over Kingsburg.

Keonta Vernon scored 21 points and William Stallworth 16, and Tulare overpowered Tulare Western 63-32 to improve to 8-0 in the East Yosemite League.

Montay Walker and Kendall McCreary each scored two points in overtime and Tim Ford-Smith led a defense that held El Diamante to a total of seven points following the third quarter as Lemoore defeated the Miners 58-55 in the West Yosemite League. Davion Coleman had 20 points for El Diamante.

Hanford West is the lone unbeaten team in WYL play after Josue Salaam scored 22 and the Huskies (5-0) knocked off Mt. Whitney (3-1) 70-56.

Marcus Edwards had 22 points and 11 rebounds, and Jesus Cabello 20 points and 20 rebounds in Riverdale's 67-61 victory over Fresno Christian to open West Sequoia League action.
