Basketball highlights from Dec. 18

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Keyora Wharry scored 20 points and Rogenee Russell 16 as Edison crushed Fresno Christian 62-17 for the Sunnyside Holiday Classic title.

Trashi Thomas scored 14 points and Isabel Bazante added 11 as Madera South defeated Mendota 53-43 in the championship of the Mendota Tournament. Madera South's Evette Torres was named most valuable player.

Katie Ogden's two free throws with 7 seconds left lifted Clovis West to a 57-56 win over Jordan-Long Beach at the Nike Tournament of Champions in Phoenix. Ogden finished with 13 points and Ali Orlich had 16.

BOYS BASKETBALL

Denzel Johnson's layup with 1 second left lifted Clovis West past El Camino-San Diego 59-58 for the championship of the Cardinal Classic in Los Angeles. Johnson, the tournament MVP, had 28 points, and teammates Derek Walkers and T.J. Jackson made the all-Classic team.

Alex Fertig scored 33 points, but it wasn't enough to keep Buchanan from losing 61-52 against Bishop-Montgomery at the National Prep Classic in Santa Maria.
