Former Republican Assembly Member Mike Villines of Clovis was appointed to the Central Valley Flood Protection Board, the governor's office announced Tuesday. The part-time position on the nine-member board pays $40,669 annually.
The flood board, based in Sacramento, works with federal, state and local agencies to plan and develop flood control works in the Sacramento and San Joaquin valleys.
According to the board's website, board members do not need state Senate confirmation and are paid $100 per diem. But Melinda Malone, a spokeswoman for the governor, said the board's website is out of date. The Legislature changed the law in 2007 to expand the board and make the positions paid part-time jobs requiring Senate confirmation.
