Basketball highlights from Dec. 1

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Danielle Carrillo scored 26 points and Mendota outscored Roosevelt 24-16 in the fourth quarter of a 56-55 win at the Selma Shoot-Out.

Ashlyn White scored 15 of her 17 points in the second half as Fresno Christian, the Central Section's defending Division V champion, rallied to beat Clovis North 51-48 in the first round of the Clovis Classic.

Brianna Watson delivered 18 points as Clovis coasted past Madera 62-22 at the Clovis Classic.

Paige Brown's 12 points led Sierra's balanced scoring attack in a 52-33 rout of Arvin at Selma.

Jayla English delivered 15 points and 15 rebounds as Hanford West raced past Porterville 58-40 at the Visalia Invitational. Megan Walker countered with 15 points for the Panthers.

BOYS BASKETBALL

Kevin Bailey and Antwoun Whitfield, the only returning starters from section defending D-I champ Clovis East, scored 34 and 24 points, respectively, as the state's 24th-ranked Timberwolves routed North Hollywood 85-59 in the opening round of the Simi Valley Tipoff Classic. Central, at No. 22, also made Cal-Hi Sports' Top 25.

Cory Skerce made a 3-pointer and three free throws in the fourth quarter as Yosemite outscored Madera 14-6 and defeated the Coyotes 46-42 at the Kerman Kiwanis Tournament. Skerce finished with 13 points. Evan Ewert had 11 rebounds.

Gerardo Gonzalez contributed 11 points and 14 rebounds, and Jose Acosta scored 10 of his 16 points in the third quarter as Kerman defeated Mendota 54-29 in a duel of west-side rivals at Kerman.
