Clovis West volleyball sweeps Clovis

Clovis West High's volleyball team swept an opponent for the 24th time this season, opening defense of its Central Section Division I volleyball championship with a 25-16, 25-14, 25-19 victory over rival Clovis on Wednesday.

The second-seeded Golden Eagles (27-6) were led by Lauren Meador's 16 kills. Alyssa Monteverde had 10 kills and Shannon Leary contributed 32 assists for Clovis West, which also won the D-I title in 2008.

The Eagles advance to Tuesday's semifinals, where they will host No. 3 Liberty, a 25-20, 27-25, 25-20 winner over No. 6 Frontier.

  • No. 1 Centennial 3, No. 8 Buchanan 0: The Golden Hawks won their section-leading 33rd match of the season 25-17, 25-8, 25-18 over the Bears.

DIVISION II

  • No. 1 Edison 3, No. 9 Tulare 0: Akeya Maddox had 13 kills and six digs as the Tigers swept the Redskins 25-18, 25-20, 25-11. Brittanie Robinson added 15 assists and five kills for Edison (25-6), which will host Exeter on Tuesday.
  • No. 4 Exeter 3, No. 12 Madera 0: Amanda Monge excelled offensively (11 kills) and defensively (13 digs) to power the Monarchs' 25-21, 25-18, 25-19 victory.
    • No. 6 Golden West 3, No. 3 Tehachapi 1: The Trailblazers ousted last season's D-III champion Warriors 26-24, 16-25, 25-18, 25-19.

    DIVISION III

    • No. 2 Madera South 3, No. 7 Hoover 1: Justine Williams controlled the net with 18 kills and seven blocks to lead the Stallions to a 18-25, 28-19, 25-22, 25-17 win. Madera South will face No. 3 West, a 25-10, 25-11, 25-11 winner over No. 6 Porterville, on Tuesday.
  • No. 5 Redwood 3, No. 4 Golden Valley 0: Jaimee Choi was 18 for 18 from the service line and also contributed 24 assists as the Rangers rolled to a 25-18, 25-8, 25-17 win. Redwood moves on to play top-seeded Independence, a 25-8, 25-18, 25-7 winner over No. 8 Cesar Chavez.
  • DIVISION IV

    • No. 1 Central Valley Christian 3, No. 8 McFarland 0: Tori Moons (24 assists) and Sky Griffin (18 assists) consistently set up Amy Weststeyn (14 kills), Ashley Vander Tuig (12 kills) and Danielle Nederend (nine kills) as the Cavaliers rolled to a 25-15, 25-14, 25-14 victory. Alexa Knevelbaard had 23 digs for CVC (28-4), which advances to a semifinal against Immanuel.
  • No. 3 Chowchilla 3, No. 6 Kingsburg 0: Elliana Diepersloot had 16 kills, 13 digs and two aces, while Shelvy Seals added 32 assists as the Redskins swept the Vikings 25-19 26-24 25-15. Chowchilla next travels to No. 2 Bakersfield Christian, which beat No. 7 Strathmore 25-18, 25-18, 25-20.
  • No. 4 Immanuel 3, No. 5 Liberty-Madera Ranchos 0: Jaclyn Kliewer's nine kills helped lift the Eagles to the 25-18, 25-22, 25-20 win.
  • DIVISION V

    • No. 2 Fresno Christian 3, No. 3 Laton 0: Emily Schoettler had 11 kills to power the Eagles over the Mustangs 25-16, 25-12, 25-7 and back into a second-straight D-V final.

    Fresno Christian also received nine kills from Katelyn Miller and 22 assists from Ashlyn White.
