Each of the four top seeds advanced with relative ease Friday to the semifinal round of the Central Section girls individual tennis championships at Laurel Glen Tennis Club in Bakersfield.
Third-seeded Pookie Gonzalez of Bullard High will face No. 2 seed Gracie Jacobs of Garces in one semifinal at 9 a.m. today. The other semi pits No. 1 seed Chelby Cooke of Bakersfield Christian against No. 3 Nancy Ramirez of East.
Gonzalez, who had a first-round bye, advanced by defeating Strathmore's Amy Clifton 6-0, 6-1 and Clovis West's Alyx Fena 6-4, 6-2.
In doubles, Memorial's top-seeded duo of Robin Draper and Sydney Perotti advanced to the semifinals with two 6-1, 6-0 triumphs. Buchanan's Kathryn Ashford and Megan Lee, seeded third, reached the semis in the opposite bracket.
