THE BUZZ

A showdown for first place in the Tri-River Athletic Conference is set for tonight with No. 1 Clovis West at No. 8 Clovis East. Both are 2-0 in the TRAC. The Timberwolves enter the rankings for the first time this season on the strength of a come-from-behind 21-25, 13-25, 25-23, 25-20, 16-14 win over No. 9 Clovis and a 25-13, 25-18, 19-25, 25-19 win over Clovis North.

Centennial moves up to No. 2 after previously second-ranked Liberty opened Southwest Yosemite League play with a 26-24, 25-14, 25-16 loss to Frontier, while the Golden Hawks swept Stockdale and Independence. Bakersfield also leapfrogs Liberty after the Drillers topped Frontier 25-17, 25-23, 25-13.

The match of last week happened in Tehachapi, where D-IV No. 1 Bakersfield Christian rallied to top the D-II No. 1 Warriors 26-28, 23-25, 25-22, 25-22, 15-13 behind Hannah Wilkins' 20 kills and Brittany Smith's 18. The question is, can Chowchilla, Liberty-Madera Ranchos or any of the other contenders in D-IV match the Eagles' firepower?
