THE BUZZ

They're running wild in the Central Section. Consider these rushing efforts in Week 5 alone: Dos Palos' Kevin Schofield (348), Stockdale's Deon Martin (296), Centennial's Shawn Johnson (276), Redwood's Dillon Root (216), Clovis West's Kendall Brock (216), Coalinga's Brian Alvarado (199), Kerman's Aldo Valencia (187), Central's Ernest Carter (167), Clovis West's Hunter Burns (161), Lemoore's Deandre Daise (155) and Clovis West's Jordan Brown (140). Clovis West rushed for 551 yards in a 50-28 win over Edison. Schofield scored six touchdowns, and Johnson, Brock and Carter four each.

Brock, who has committed to Nevada, has become the Golden Eagles' career rushing leader with 3,439 yards, passing Jose Reyes (3,418). Brock needs 245 all-purpose yards to pass the late Brad Martin (4,041) in that category.

Centennial, at No. 10, and No. 19 Clovis West remain ranked in the state by Cal-Hi Sports, but Buchanan dropped out following a 44-24 loss at Stockdale. In a rarity, Northern California occupies Cal-Hi's top two spots with Grant-Sacramento (6-0) and De La Salle-Concord (5-0).

Stockdale's scoring total at home against then-No. 6 and unbeaten Buchanan two weeks after getting shut out by Clovis at the same site is maybe the section's mind-twisting combo of the season to date. Now the test that really matters for Stockdale -- a Southwest Yosemite League opener at Centennial, which has outscored the opposition 259-62, including a 36-6 road rout of Clovis.

Centennial is hoping for the return of Utah-bound linebacker Jared Norris, who has missed three straight games with Valley fever.
