GIRLS TENNIS HIGHLIGHTS

Memorial's Robin Draper won the marquee singles matchup 3-6, 6-3, 10-5 over Pookie Gonzalez, but Gonzalez, the two-sport standout in the fall, returned the favor by teaming with Claire Frye to top Draper and Sydney Perotti 7-5, 6-4 in doubles as Bullard won 6-3 in a County/Metro Athletic Conference showdown between two of the Central Section's top Division I teams.

Azca Sayyaz and Simran Kaur rallied from a 9-6 deficit in the tiebreaker to pull out a 4-6, 6-1, 11-9 win at No. 1 doubles over Jasmine Zaragoza and Nicole Aguirre to lead Madera past Sunnyside 6-3 in a CMAC match.

Fowler's No. 1 doubles team of senior Chantal Guillen and junior Aryssa Medina remained unbeaten for the season with an 8-2 win as the Redcats improved to 11-2 overall and 6-0 in the West Sequoia League with a 9-0 blanking of Firebaugh. Fowler senior Cara Eskelsen, who hasn't lost in league play, escaped with an 8-7 (7-3) win over Zulema Guzman in No. 1 singles.

Sydney Austin edged Gretel D'Souza 6-2, 3-6, 10-5 in a meeting of two of the area's top singles players to lead Clovis North to a 5-1 win over Clovis in a Tri-River Athletic Conference match that skipped doubles play because of the air quality.
