The Central Section's marquee matchup of the week is tonight in Bakersfield, where top-ranked Clovis West faces No. 2 Liberty, which has opened the season with 10 straight victories -- including five against ranked opposition (Bakersfield, Buchanan, Centennial, Central and Frontier).

New Golden Eagles setter Shannon Leary and middle blocker Alyssa Monteverde have helped the two-time defending section champions also get off to a strong start. This one will have playoff seeding implications come November, as will another matchup in Kern County tonight: Clovis at Bakersfield.

After tonight, Liberty and Bakersfield, as well as Stockdale, will be idle until Oct. 5 when Southwest Yosemite League play begins.

In Division II, Edison puts an 11-match winning streak on the line tonight at Central.

Kings Christian has won five straight matches to grab firm control of the top spot in Division V.
