Best barbershop banter: After going 42-9 over the past four years with three trips to the Division II finals -- including a championship in 2007 -- El Diamante has been moved into Division I. To prep for the postseason promotion, the Miners' upgraded nonleague schedule now features Tri-River Athletic Conference members Clovis North and Central, Division II contender Frontier and Tulare, which was also promoted to D-I from D-II. "It's a challenge for our kids. They know it's a lot tougher and they've worked harder," Miners coach Mark Rogers said. "D-II was good, but the biggest difference is that first playoff game. In D-II, you sometimes had an easy game. But in D-I, you are playing someone good right off the bat."
