Centennial, Buchanan ranked in state top 25

Centennial and Buchanan have made Cal-Hi Sports' preseason top 25 in football.

Centennial, which returns USC-bound quarterback Cody Kessler and several other accomplished players from a 9-5 team that finished second to Bullard in the Central section Division I playoffs, is ranked No. 18.

Buchanan, upset last year as an unbeaten and No. 1 seed by Centennial in the D-I quarterfinals, is ranked No. 21.

The section also is represented by No. 33 Bullard, No. 38 Central and No. 42 Liberty-Bakersfield.

Bullard-CW game moved

After further review, school officials from Bullard and Clovis West have returned their nonleague football game to Sept. 30, a Thursday at McLane Stadium.

It had been rescheduled for 7 p.m. Oct. 2, a rare Saturday date -- and one that conflicted with a Fresno State home game that night against Cal Poly.

"Both schools have a lot of connection to Fresno State, so we think it's best for both programs to play Thursday," Bullard athletic director Doug Finks said.

McLane Stadium, shared by Fresno Unified schools, will host a game between Fresno and Golden Valley-Merced on Oct. 1.

Bullard, which doesn't have a campus stadium, has switched its designated home venue from Chukchansi Park to McLane, Finks said, because it didn't receive concession and parking revenue at the Fresno Grizzlies' Triple-A facility.

"In today's financial climate," Finks said, "you need every dollar you can get."
