County tops City for boys volleyball supremacy

County left the court wearing new T-shirts at Fresno State's South Gym on Wednesday after capturing bragging rights in the City/County All-Star Boys Volleyball Game.

Clovis High's David Blumer and Michael Tweedie of Buchanan helped County rally from a 2-1 deficit in games to a 3-2 victory over City.

County won a marathon fourth game en route to a 25-13, 20-25, 20-25, 25-23, 15-10 victory.

Tweedie finished with 14 kills and Blumer eight. Three other Buchanan stars came up big for County. Robert Winter had six kills, Trevor Gledhill five and Marcos Zuzuarregu added 12 assists.

The City had a larger roster -- 16 to 12 -- and the glossier profile featured by Fresno Bee Player of the Year Kyle Peterson of Central Section champion Clovis West. He was joined by three other Bee all-stars in Jacob Schmidt of Clovis West and Bullard's Johnathan Trevino and Henry Fourchy.

Peterson had 13 kills and five blocks, Schmidt 10 kills, Clovis West's Corey Mills five kills and Bullard's Brandon Hamparzoomian 16 assists.

County had only one Bee all-star, Gledhill, but the same extra incentive. The team was promised T-shirts by coach Scott Okada of Sanger if they won and that appeared to pump them up in the late going.
