Edison's Bijev nets national soccer honor

Edison High junior Villyan Bijev was named to the 2010 PARADE All-America soccer team, one of only four Californians to make the 35-player team.

Bijev is the first local player to receive such a prestigious honor since Tulare's Raul Rivera in 1999.

Called the best player in the Central Section by Edison coach Femi Olukanni, Bijev had 21 goals and 15 assists for a Tigers team that finished in the middle of the pack last season. Still, he was the named MVP of the County/Metro Athletic Conference. He is also a two-time Bee All-Star.

Last summer, Bijev was on the Cal Odyssey, a Clovis-based soccer club team that finished runner-up nationally in the 15-16 year-olds division.

No local players made the PARADE All-America girls soccer team.
