El Diamante, Clovis West rule tennis finals

It was all El Diamante High and Clovis West at the Central Section boys' tennis championships in Bakersfield.

El Diamante's Ryan Andrada, the tournament's No. 2 seed, knocked off top-seeded teammate Josh Lorentzen 7-6, 6-2 to capture the section individual title.

It was Lorentzen's third consecutive runner-up finish at sections while Andrada improved from third place last year.

In doubles, Clovis West's Stephan Loop and Vincent Paganetti defended their top seed by overwhelming Golden Eagles teammates Brice Austin and Robin Shin 6-0, 6-1.

Immanuel's Kyle Jackson outlasted Clovis' Andrew Combs 6-3, 0-6, 7-5 in the third-place singles match. In third-place doubles, Hanford West's Taylor Herron and Brandon Pedreiro rallied to defeat Liberty's Eric Kong and Michale Rice 4-6, 6-3, 6-1.

Hoover wins lacrosse crown

Senior Katlyn Hansen scored two overtime goals as Hoover defeated Bullard 5-2 for the Patriots' second straight Fresno Unified School District championship.

Freshman Megan Kemple, sophomore Ariel Ross and senior Marissa Pacheco added goals to help Hoover (14-0) complete its second consecutive undefeated season. Girls lacrosse is played by seven area schools.

Jade Jones scored both goals for Bullard (12-3), which lost in the FUSD championship for the second straight year.

Pacheco's goal 12 seconds into the first half of overtime broke a 2-2 deadlock and put the Patriots ahead for good.
