Bullard, Clovis West win badminton titles

Bullard High sophomore Pookie Gonzales won the singles crown and Clovis West seniors Brianna Orlich and Melody Mandelbaum the doubles title at the Central Section individual badminton championships.

Buchanan's Sam Battles was second in singles. Buchanan's Alisha Foster and Lauren Young were the runner-up in doubles.

CMAC tennis titles go to Bullard, Clovis North

Bullard's Alex Jaramishian won the County/Metro Athletic Conference tennis championship and was named Player of the Year.

Jaramishian defeated Edison's Kyle Krikorian 6-0, 6-2 in the championship.

Clovis North's Jared Ryan and Kevin Brar won in doubles 6-3, 6-3.

Clovis North's Ross Garner was Coach of the Year.

- Immanuel's Kyle Jackson won the Central Sequoia League singles title, 6-4, 6-3 over Andrew Gong of Central Valley Christian. Selma's David Cortina and Dylan Lewis won the CSL's doubles championship.

- Firebaugh's Everardo Castillo won in singles and Caruthers' Erik Martinez and Paul Cardoza in doubles at the West Sequoia League tournament. The top four singles players and doubles teams all advance to the section tournament, scheduled to begin May 15.

Redwood, El Diamante are champs in track

Redwood High won the boys title and El Diamante the girls at the West Yosemite League track and field meet.

For the boys, the Rangers had 177 points to runner-up El Diamante's 103. The Miners girls had 169.5 points and Redwood 124.

Redwood's Justin Vilhauer won the 1,600 (4:18.7) and 3,200 (9:57.8). The Rangers' 400 (43.33) and 1,600 (3:26.38) relays also won.

El Diamante's Molly Pahkamaa won the 800 (2:25.1) and 1,600 (5:27) and Danielle Lickey the 100 high hurdles (15.59, wind aided) and 300 low hurdles (47.05).
