THE BUZZ

All the rain last week kept several teams idle. But Sunnyside got in two games and made the most of them, defeating Memorial 2-0 and previously eighth-ranked Madera South 4-2. The Wildcats, riding a four-game winning streak and sitting atop the North Yosemite League at 4-0, break into the rankings for the first time.

The Bee's top three teams -- Golden Valley, Tulare Western and Farmersville -- have all won at least six straight games.

The section's longest winning streak among boys teams belongs to Riverdale at eight in a row.

Clovis West has emerged as the top contender to pace-setting Buchanan in the powerful Tri-River Athletic Conference. The Golden Eagles, who dropped a 4-2 decision to the nationally ranked Bears on Jan. 13, get a rematch Friday at Buchanan. The Bears are ranked seventh in the ESPN Fab 50 poll released Jan. 19.

Caruthers enters the Division V rankings for the first time this season following a 4-3 victory over previous No. 2 Fowler.
