THE BUZZ

Defending D-II champion Hanford and senior Taylor Spikes are assaulting record books for 3-point shooting. The Bullpups are averaging 10.3 successful treys a game. They tied Yosemite's section single-game record by making 21 3s in a 109-36 rout of Central in the Corcoran Tournament. Spikes had six of those, has 67 for the season and 247 for her four-year career. That ranks 21st in state history. At her pace, she'll catch Clovis' Cassi Brangham (278, 1996-99) for 11th in state annals.

Sydnee Fipps, a 5-10 junior, is averaging 24.2 points, 10.4 rebounds and 3.2 steals for Yosemite, a school of 1,100 beating up on schools more than double its size. The latest was the most impressive of all -- an 81-59 demolition at section defending D-I champion Stockdale (2,400), which hadn't lost at home in four years.
