Clovis West boys topple Gahr

Jason Ritchey scored 28 points and grabbed 11 rebounds to lead the Clovis West High boys basketball team past Gahr-Cerritos 74-66 at the California Classic.

Denzel Johnson added 25 points and 15 boards for the Golden Eagles in the inaugural one-day event at Cerritos College.

Gahr entered 14-0, including an 8-0 run during a two-week sweep of the Clovis Elks Christmas Classic and Holiday Invitational Tournament titles in December.

Ervin Ware, named the Clovis Elks tourney MVP on Wednesday, scored 26 to lead the Gladiators against Clovis West.

Edison, Clovis, Buchanan girls roll

Edison High's Alaysia Brown twice scored 24 points and Clovis' Nikki Chapple and Buchanan's Corinne DenHartog each totaled 32 as their teams opened with two wins apiece at the Old Town Clovis Kiwanis Classic girls basketball tournament.

Brown and Edison beat Fresno 58-14 and Lemoore 67-51. Chapple had 21 in Clovis' 56-18 triumph over Reedley and 11 in a 57-18 win over Fresno.

DenHartog scored 13 and 19 points in the Bears' victories -- 65-18 over Reedley and 42-22 over Roosevelt.
