BOYS WATER POLO

Michael Luna, Rex Andres and Brandon Loflin split nine goals and Neil Stott blocked 12 shots as two-time defending D-I champion Clovis, as a No. 3 seed, opened the Central Section playoffs with a 14-5 win over No. 6 Bullard.

Matt Boogaard scored three goals, and Trevor Thomas had several point-blank blocks among 13 saves as No. 6 Sunnyside held off No. 11 Monache 6-5 in D-II.

Jessica Searles provided 23 kills, Emily Schoettler matched 12 kills with 12 digs and Ashlyn White had 35 assists as No. 2 Fresno Christian rallied from an 0-2 deficit to defeat No. 3 Kings Christian 3-2 in D-V while advancing to its first section volleyball championship in school history.

Toni Murphy had 11 kills and 20 digs, and Angie Maciel was the table-setter with 27 assists as No. 10 Clovis East upset No. 7 Madera in the first round of the D-I playoffs.
