A meet long considered something close to a state championship preview at the same site upholds its reputation with several of the state's top programs gracing the 150-school field. Varsity races will run from 8:25 a.m. to 12:35 p.m., featuring the championship girls and boys events at 9:20 a.m. and 9:50 a.m. The top runners are expected to return to Woodward Park for the state finals Nov. 28.
Boys: The most talented field in Clovis Invitational history will arrive, powered by six of the state's top 10 teams in No. 1 Royal-Simi Valley, No. 2 St. John Bosco-Bellflower, No. 3 Arcadia, No. 5 Mt. View, No. 8 Oak Ridge-El Dorado and No. 9 Davis. Defending champion Buchanan, ranked fifth in the state's Division I, returns strong behind senior Heath Reedley.
Girls: Dana Hills-Dana Point, the state's defending D-I champion, and Great Oak-Temecula come in ranked Nos. 4-5 in the state. Buchanan, after placing 10th here last year, should make an even stronger push behind junior Macy Bricks, who placed fifth at the Woodbridge Invitational. The Bears are ranked eighth in the state's D-I. Exeter's Katie Fry and Madera South's Alysha Brown join Bricks in raising high the Central Section banner.
