Out-of-towners cleaned up during the California High School Girls Tennis Classic -- a 104-school tournament featuring five divisions -- held last weekend at courts around Fresno, Clovis and Madera.
Monta Vista-Cupertino High, a four-time Northern California champion, claimed the Division I title with a 4-3 victory over Southern California powerhouse Corona del Mar-Newport Beach.
Monta Vista opened a 4-0 run through the tournament with a victory over Bakersfield Christian, The Bee's top-ranked team in the Central Section. The Eagles went on to win the consolation title with a 4-3 victory over Los Altos.
Redwood, the only other section team in the Division I bracket, went 0-2.

Other division winners included Los Gatos (II), Garces (III), Nevada Union-Grass Valley (IV) and Watsonville (V).
Mandelbaum makes pledge to Tulane
Clovis West senior setter Melody Mandelbaum has given an oral commitment to play volleyball at Tulane next year. She is expected to sign her national letter of intent in November.
Mandelbaum is a four-year starter who has helped the Golden Eagles win two Tri-River Athletic Conference titles and last season's Central Section Division I championship.
The first-team Fresno Bee All-Star is Clovis West's career leader with 2,677 assists and 612 digs.
