BOYS WATER POLO

Senior Matt Boogaard, a veteran on an otherwise inexperienced team, scored 11 goals as Sunnyside opened its season with a 16-8 nonleague win over Kingsburg.

Robert Heers and Dylan Hickey combined for seven goals as Edison defeated Central 10-4 in a west-side nonleague battle.

Redwood remained undefeated at 2-0 with a 5-4 victory over Buchanan in a showdown of Central Section powers. Gabrielle Gatewood led the Rangers to the victory when she defeated Carissa Lee in straight sets. Gatewood, The Bee's 2008 Player of the Year, entered her senior season with a three-year record of 86-1, not having lost since she was a freshman.
