The 23rd annual San Diego Classic -- dubbed the largest high school girls summer basketball tournament in the nation -- starts Thursday and will feature several Fresno-area teams.
The 312-team tournament fields teams from nine states, including four of last season's top 20 teams in the nation in Brea Olinda-Brea, Mater Dei-Santa Ana, St. Mary's-Stockton and Poly-Long Beach.
Clovis West, Corcoran and Hanford will compete in Division 3A, which will feature four defending CIF state champions in Poly (Division I), Brea Olinda (Division II), St. Mary's (Division III) and Bellarmine Jefferson-Burbank (Division V).
Entered in Division 2A are Buchanan, Memorial and Monache. Competing in the open division for late entrants are Bullard and Clovis.
