Hoover wins Fresno Unified lacrosse title

Marissa Rodriguez came through when her team needed her most Saturday.

Rodriguez scored two second-half goals in Hoover High's 6-4 victory over Bullard in the Fresno Unified League girls lacrosse championship at Sunnyside High.

The teams were tied 2-2 at halftime.

Samantha Mardida led the Knights with two goals.

In the consolation championship, McLane defeated Fresno 10-5.

McLane's Gabby Alvarado scored five goals. Claire Torralva made nine saves.

Jaycee Zazueta had four goals for Fresno.

Hoover defeated Edison in one semifinal 7-3 and Bullard topped Sunnyside 6-5 in the other.

Boys volleyball

Clovis East is the No. 1 seed for the Central Section Division I volleyball playoffs.

Matches get under way Tuesday, though the Timberwolves have a first-round bye. Second-seeded Bullard opens against No. 15 Mission Prep.

Boys tennis

Brackets in divisions I through V are playing out mostly to form through two rounds of the section team tourney.

Play resumes Wednesday with finals in D-III and D-V and semifinals in other divisions.

Top-seeded Clovis West hosts No. 4 Bakersfield in D-I, while No. 3 Bullard faces a likely trip to No. 2 Stockdale.
