Local briefs: More records fall at swim meet

The U.S. Masters Swimming National Short Course Championship meet concluded with 23 records falling Sunday at the Clovis North Aquatics Complex.

David Radcliff, Laura Val and Rita Simonton each set two records.

In 75-79 100 freestyle, Radcliff broke the U.S. record by finishing in 58.62. He also set a record in the 500 freestyle in 6:05.87.

In the 55-59 50 backstroke, Val finished in 29.01, and concluded the 200 butterfly in 2:16.28.

In the 90-94 100 individual medley, Simonton set the record in 2:37.61, and the 100 freestyle in 1:52.75.

Regier wins at Madera Speedway

Troy Regier held off Jim Birges to take the checkered flag of the 50-main 410 Supermodifieds/360 Modifieds Saturday in the Vukovich Classic at Madera Speedway.

Regier and Birges swapped leads until Regier took the lead for good after a late caution on lap 48.

Other class winners: Kody Swanson, USAC/BCRA Midgets; David Goodwill, NCMA Sprints; Dylan Albani, Legends of the Pacific; Mike Lewis, USAC Ford Focus Midgets.
